Collection: Jamila Gavin | Librettist

Jamila Gavin, of Anglo-Indian heritage, has been publishing childrens’ books for all ages since 1979. Her main inspiration for writing was to reflect the changing face of multicultural Britain, always wanting every child to be able to find their mirror image in books. Among her many publications are The Surya Trilogy (Egmont), Coram Boy (Egmont), winner of the Children’s Whitbread Award (2000), Blackberry Blue, and Other Original Fairy Tales (Random House). Her two most recent novels are Never Forget You, set in WW2, and My Soul a Shining Tree, set in WW1. She has also written numerous plays for the theatre, radio, and television.

As a child, Jamila loved composing, and setting her own poems to music, as well as those of her favourite poets. So, later in life to find herself returning to offering poems and texts to a composer, albeit not herself, but a far better one, Francis Faux, is a great joy.
