A note from the composer:
I was inspired to write this very simple and accessible piece of music after receiving news from CMP requesting secular choral works about nature. A postcard with a Lord Byron quote on it had been sitting on my desk for some time, and I felt it deserved a musical setting. I soon realised that the piece needed an additional verse, so I decided to create my own to complement the theme. The piano writing is deliberately straightforward, not too challenging, and the vocal forces (SAB) and ranges are appropriate for community and youth choirs. The message to protect all of nature’s beauty and wonder, and the music found within it, would chime perfectly in climate-themed choral programmes.
