This beautiful and well-known Irish Christmas carol describes the first Christmas. It is attributed to the late Seán Óg Ó Tuama from County Cork, although he always claimed that it was a traditional melody. The Gaelic text is by poet and theologian Aodh Mac Aingil Mac Cathmhaoil (1571-1626), the Archbishop of Armagh.
Whilst this piece is scored for SATB, the tenor and bass parts could easily be sung by altos in an upper voice choir, or with all lower voices on the bass part in choirs with more upper voices. A version with all parts in treble clef is also available to buy (select 'upper voices' above).
