In the silence and the darkness
Words: The Revd Mother Carrie Thompson
Tune: Garnett by Don Gillthorpe
1. In the silence and the darkness,
with one word you caused to be
All the wonders of creation,
all in earth and sky and sea.
Loving God, now plant within me
your saving word anew.
Help me welcome it with meekness,
with the hope I find in you.
2. For I know my roots draw deeply
as I learn and grow each day
From the love of those who taught me
and who brought me on my way.
As I spread my branches wider,
let my love grow wider too,
That the world may know I’m nourished
by the strength I find in you.
3. As I look into the future,
then my way may seem unclear,
But I know I am surrounded
by the love that found me here.
May I blossom to your glory,
may the fruit I bear be true,
That the world may know I conquer
in the love I find in you.
