They shall not e'er grow old
Words: The Revd Mother Carrie Thompson
Tune: Ripley by Oliver Tarney
1. They shall not e’er grow old,
As we who live grow old,
Age shall not weary them,
Nor restless years condemn.
At the closing of the day,
In the morning sunrise,
Never shall their mem’ry fade:
We will remember them.
2. On through the battle’s heat,
The Spirit whispers peace:
To ploughshares beat your swords,
The peace to end all wars.
All creation longs to sing
Songs of truth and freedom.
All are one, for all are God’s;
All are in his hand.
3. Arise, and bless his Name,
And with one voice proclaim:
In this is endless life -
The love of God in Christ.
Christ is risen from the grave;
Death has no dominion!
What can snatch us from his love?
Christ has conquered all.
4. They shall not e’er grow old,
As we who live grow old,
Age shall not weary them,
Nor restless years condemn.
At the closing of the day,
In the morning sunrise,
Never shall their mem’ry fade:
We will remember them.
