Sing Lullaby (David Bednall)

Sing lullaby was written to provide an alternative setting of these much-loved words, and is dedicated to my nephews and nieces who were all very young at the time. The melody is suitably gentle and rocking, whilst the warm and expressive harmony changes subtly in each verse to highly the changing moods of the text.  The words are a lullaby sung to the sleeping child, but they also look ahead to the suffering he will endure, and also the Resurrection of Easter morning. Now, however, it is time to be peaceful and blissful. The carol should be performed unaccompanied wherever possible but organ support can be used if necessary. It may also be performed in Db if preferred. The lower two notes of the final chord are optional, but they should both be included if there are the voices to do so.
